Simple Wire is a news reader with no servers of its own. There is no Simple Wire account, no Simple Wire database, and no Simple Wire analytics. This policy explains where your data actually lives, what leaves your device, and what we — the developer — can and cannot see.
Simple Wire has no backend. We operate no servers that receive your reading activity, your feed list, or your shared articles. The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party libraries that phone home. We do not sell or share personal information, because we never receive any.
Your subscriptions, folders, read status, and favorites are stored on your device. If you are signed into iCloud and leave iCloud Sync enabled, this data also syncs through your own private iCloud database so your devices stay in step. That database belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it and no ability to read it. You can turn iCloud Sync off at any time in Settings → Sync & Sharing → iCloud Sync, and the app continues to work entirely on-device.
Simple Wire fetches feeds directly from the websites you add — the same way a web browser would. Those websites therefore see the ordinary information any web request includes, such as your IP address and the app's user agent. We do not proxy, log, or intercept these requests, and we receive no record of which feeds you read. The same is true when you open an article, use Reader Mode, or load a shared link: your device contacts that site directly, and that site's own privacy policy governs what it does with the request.
If you add a feed that requires a username and password, those credentials are stored in the iOS or macOS Keychain on your device. They are never written to iCloud in readable form, never included in exports, and never transmitted anywhere except to the feed's own server when fetching that feed.
Sharing is optional and off until you use it. It is built on Apple's CloudKit sharing, the same mechanism behind a shared note or a shared photo album. There are two kinds of channel:
When you share an article, what travels is the article's title, its link, the source feed's name, the time you shared it, and your chosen display name. An optional short note can be attached to direct shares only; notes are never attached to public posts. All of this lives in your own iCloud and the recipient's, and remains invisible to us.
Your display name is text you choose and confirm yourself. It is shown to people who receive your shares, and you can set it to anything you like — it does not have to be your real name. If you never share anything, you can leave it blank.
When someone accepts your invitation, Apple's sharing system shows you how that person appears on their Apple Account — typically a name, email address, or phone number. Apple provides that identity information to you as the owner of the share; Simple Wire does not request access to your contacts and does not store or transmit those identities anywhere else.
If you allow notifications, Apple's push service tells your device when a channel you follow has new content, and your device then shows a local notification. The push itself carries no article content. Whether a notification appears is decided on your device using the per-person preferences you set, so muting someone happens locally rather than on a server.
The one-time unlock and tips are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, and we receive only the anonymous, aggregate sales reports Apple provides to all developers. Purchases are governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
We use no crash-reporting SDK. If you have opted into sharing diagnostics with developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized crash reports through App Store Connect. These contain technical diagnostic information, not your feeds or reading activity, and they reach us only through Apple.
Shared articles include a Report option, which opens a pre-filled email in your mail app. If you choose to send it, we receive whatever that email contains — the reported article's title and link, the sharer's display name, and any note — along with your email address, because you sent it to us. We use it only to review the report. Sending is entirely your choice; nothing is transmitted unless you tap send.
Simple Wire has no account to delete. To remove everything, open Settings → “Erase My Simple Wire Data.” That deletes the app's local database, your cached article content, any saved feed passwords, and the sharing channels the app created in your iCloud — including your public follow link and every direct connection. Deleting the app removes its on-device data as well; if iCloud Sync was on, use the Erase option first to clear the synced copy too.
Simple Wire is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because the app displays content from feeds you choose and articles other people share with you, it may show material that is not appropriate for young children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Because the app collects nothing, we expect changes to be rare.
